Bike around Velingrad

The town of Velingrad is located in the northwest part of the Rhodope Mountains at an altitude of 770 m above the sea. It lays some 130 km away from Sofia and 80 away from Plovdiv. Within the territory of the town itself there are about 70 thermo mineral springs present. This fact provides best conditions for the development of spa tourism which may be considered as a perfect add on to the mountain biking. In the last few year members of BIKEAREA have explored and way marked more than 300 km of bike routes around Velingrad, which makes it one the best MTB centers in Bulgaria.

Some of the routes were marked in year 2005 and include:

1. The Big Loop - 150 km around the Tchepinska valley;
2. Secondary routes, mainly downhill connecting the Big Loop with the town of Velingrad - 100 km altogether.

Some are currently unavailable due to forest development and construction work, so please contact us if you plan to bike on some of them.

In year 2007 BIKEAREA team has accomplished another bike route in the region - "Batashka Mountains Bike Route", located to the south of Velingrad with a length of 94 km.
